Governor of Novgorod Oblast Sergei Gerasimovich Mitin

Sergei Gerasimovich MITIN was born on June 14, 1951 in Gorky (now Nizhni Novgorod).

He started his career as a technician at Ulyanov Plant in Gorky.

In 1974, he graduated from Gorky Polytechnic Institute. Right after the graduation he continued his career at Ulyanov Plant in Gorky. He worked at the plant until 1993; from 1991 until 1993 he was the general director of the plant.

In 1993-1995, he headed “Termal” company in Nizhni Novgorod.

In 1996-1998, Mr. Mitin was a member of the State Duma (the lower chamber of the Federal Parliament). He served as deputy chairman of the Economic Policy Committee.

In 1998-2000, he was a deputy minister of economics of Russia.

In 2000-2004, he served as a deputy minister of industry and science of Russia.

In 2004-2007, he was a deputy minister of agriculture of Russia.

Since August 3, 2007 he has been governing Novgorod Oblast.  

Governor Mitin holds a doctorate degree in economics.

The Governor is married with a daughter.
