Governor of Yaroslavl Oblast Sergey Alexeevich Vakhrukov
On December 25, 2007, Sergey Alexeevich VAKHRUKOV became Governor of Yaroslavl Oblast.
Mr. Vakhrukov was born on June 20, 1958 in Rybinsk.
In 1980, he graduated from Rybinsk Institute of Aviation Technologies and became an engineer at a motor-building enterprise.
After military service, he began a career in the Young Communist League (Komsomol) and Communist Party structures.
In December 1991, he was appointed as State Secretary of Yaroslavl Oblast Administration; in 1994 he became a vice governor of the oblast. In 1996, Mr. Vakhrukov served as first vice governor of the oblast.
He was elected twice to the regional legislation body – the oblast duma – in 1996 and 2000. He headed the duma from 1996 until 2000. At the same time he was a member of the Council of the Federation of Russia.
In 2000-2007, Mr. Vahkrukov was a deputy representative of the Russian president to the Urals Federal District of Russia.
On December 18, 2007 President Putin nominated him as acting Governor of Yaroslavl Oblast, and on December 25, 2007 he became Governor of Yaroslavl Oblast. He is a successor of former Governor Anatoly Lisitsyn, who was elected to the Russian parliament – the State Duma.
