Oleg Ivanovich KOVALYOV, 59, was born on September 7, 1948 in the village of Vannovka in Krasnodar Krai.
In 1971, he graduated from Rostov Institute of Engineering and Construction.
He started his career at Spetszhelezobetonstroy сompany and participated in the construction of Kashira Power Station, Arkhangelsk Paper Factory, and Norilsk Combine.
In 1986-1991, he headed Kashira Agropromstroy Company.
In 1991, he was appointed head of Kashira District of Moscow Oblast. In March 1996 he was re-elected. He served until 1999.
In December 1999, Mr. Kovalyov was elected a member of the State Duma (lower chamber of the Parliament). Since then he has been re-elected to the Duma twice: in 2003 and 2007 as a member of “Yedinaya Rossia” (United Russia) political party.
On March 14, 2008 Mr. Kovalyov was appointed Governor of Ryazan Oblast.
The Governor is married with two daughters and a son.
