Sergey Pepeliaev is Russia’s most authoritative lawyer

Sergey Pepeliaev, the Managing Partner of Pepeliaev Group, has been named Russia’s most authoritative lawyer, according to the ’10 most authoritative lawyers’ ratings produced by journal Russian Reporter[1].

The journal’s experts particularly hailed Mr Pepeliaev and law firm Pepeliaev Group for its correct business strategy.

“Pepeliaev Group’s business strategy as a Russian law firm is to be ‘nationally oriented’”, asserts Mr Pepeliaev. In contrast to many of its fellow law firms, Pepeliaev Group is not rushing to join up with major western players, and thanks to this it derives an additional competitive advantage. There are many projects which are highly sensitive in terms of Russia’s internal policy and which are entrusted solely to Russian lawyers. “Pepeliaev Group won the FIFA tender for the project involving staging and hosting the football World Cup in 2018 thanks to the fact that it is a Russian firm which possesses considerable resources across all areas of the law,” explains Mr Pepeliaev. The firm’s specialists work with the Russian Government to improve tax, customs and civil legislation. For example, having been instructed by the Presidential administration, Pepeliaev Group lawyers worked on the law regarding the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi on customs, land law and tax issues. The firm’s ‘Green corridor’ project at the behest of the Russian Nanotechnology Corporation (ROSNANO) was prepared by lawyers in Pepeliaev Group’s customs law and foreign trade regulation practice. All the national projects in which Pepeliaev Group’s lawyers are involved are enormously significant for building an innovation economy in Russia to aid the country’s ongoing development.

In 2011 in Paris, Pepeliaev Group was honoured to be hailed as the best Russian law firm at the prestigious International Legal Alliance Summit & Awards. The firm’s real estate and construction practice was rated as the best among firms specialising in legal support for real estate in the Real Estate Market Records awards for 2011.

Chambers and Legal 500, the publishers of international directories rating law firms, recognise Pepeliaev Group as the undisputed leader for tax-related legal services in Russia. The international law firm directory Chambers Europe in 2011 highly commended Pepeliaev Group for labour and migration law, dispute resolution and mediation, real estate and construction, intellectual property and trademarks, and antimonopoly regulation. Between 2003 and 2010, the ratings of the agency Expert RA have placed Pepeliaev Group as the leader among Russian law and consulting firms.
