The Russian judicial system consists of federal courts (the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation, courts of general jurisdiction, and state “arbitrazh” (commercial) courts) and the courts of the Russian Federation constituent entities (Constitutional Courts and magistrates). The Constitutional Court generally resolves issues relating to compliance of federal and regional laws and regulations with the Russian Constitution. Disputes regarding business activities and those involving legal entities and self-employed entrepreneurs are heard before state arbitrazh (commercial) courts. Other disputes fall under the purview of courts of general jurisdiction and magistrates.
