Head of the Republic of Komi Vladimir Torlopov

Vladimir Alexandrovich Torlopov, 58, is a graduate from Komi Pedagogic Institute. He started his career in 1971 as a teacher of physics in a rural high school.

    Since 1974, he worked in the Trade Unions Organization.

    In 1990, he was elected into the Republic’s legislative assembly.

    In 1993-1993, he served as the first deputy chairman of the Republic’s government, being responsible for social affairs.

    In 1995, he became the chairman of the State Council of the Republic of Komi. In 1999, he was re-elected.

    Since December 2001, he has been governing the Republic of Komi. In 2005, he started his second term.

Mr. Torlopov has his doctor degree in sociology.

He is married with two daughters.
