AMCHAM RUSSIA CONTINUES ITS FULL COURT PRESS ON 2006 TAX YEAR RELIEF FOR AMERICAN TAXPAYERS IN MOSCOW

Members and Friends of the American Chamber of Commerce in Russia,

On Thursday I wrote to Secretary of the Treasury Henry Paulson urging a revision of the October 6 IRS Housing Exclusion Limitation for Moscow, and listing the letter’s nearly 200 AmCham member endorsers.

We are half way to the goal line: last week the State Department revised its Housing Allowance Table for Moscow to $90,900. This positive step was a direct result of swift action by Ambassador William Burns in providing the State Department’s Housing Allowance unit with accurate Embassy staff rent data, although the Embassy is not involved in the Housing Allowance program.

For those who endorsed our letter to Treasury, we will provide you a copy on request by e-mail to osmirnova@amcham.ru. (We do not believe it appropriate to post the letter on our website as yet).

We will of course keep you posted on developments and greatly appreciate the endorsements provided.

Best regards,

Andrew B. Somers
President
