	AmCham President's Letter to Prime Minister Vladimir Putin
	Dear AmCham members,

On behalf of the member companies of the American Chamber in Commerce in Russia, I recently wrote to Prime Minister Vladimir Putin regarding the Value Added Tax (VAT). The letter states our opinion that the current VAT is a restraining factor for businesses in Russia, particularly regarding manufacturing and hi-tech industries. It is the position of AmCham that a reduction in this tax burden will ensure the growth of investments into the Russian economy and the diversification of the economy.
 
Our position on VAT is very much in line with Russian business associations. That said, I am also aware that the Government feels that there are compelling reasons for maintaining VAT, or perhaps even raising VAT rates. We believe, however, that this would be a constraining factor in Russia's economic development.
 
I would like to thank the members of the AmCham Tax Committee for their assistance. Clearly, this is an important issue that affects our member companies.
